Today, Harrison Ford reprises another iconic role from his Hollywood glory days. Blade Runner 2049 makes its debut in theaters nationwide.

It’s probably safe to say that Harrison Ford is a popular guy right now.

According to Box Office Mojo, the actor’s impressive resume of 41 films total $4.69 billion at the domestic box office, making him the highest grossing actor in history.

However, Ford wasn’t always the king. Here’s a look at 3 Ford films that, although are not as well-known, we believe to be the most underrated of his career.

The Frisco Kid (1979)

This is one of 5 westerns of the 70s and early 80s that flopped. The success of “Blazing Saddles” 5 years earlier, combined with Ford’s then recent appearance in the original “Star Wars” should have made a Gene Wilder/Harrison Ford teaming, as we see here, a winner. The timing of this one puts it exactly 2 years after Episode 4 and 2 years before “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. This was a good crossover role for two reasons: 1) His performance closely resembles the roguish Han Solo, and 2) The cowboy hat was good practice for the Fedora.

Working Girl (1987)

“How’s life in the fast lane?” The professional sparring of the two female leads, Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver, is the center of the plot. Ford is caught right in the middle, and is absent for one third of the movie. Alec Baldwin also has a supporting role, who went on to play Jack Ryan in Hunt for Red October. Ironically, Ford took over the role later. So even though Ford plays second banana, it’s a necessary bridge builder.

“Regarding Henry” (1991)

Ford shows remarkable range as a man trying to rebuild his life after surviving a bullet to the head. He reunited with Director Mike Nichols, who also directed “Working Girl”. But perhaps the best kept secret is that this was Ford’s introduction to future “Star Wars” director J.J. Abrams. Abrams is a writer on this film, and even has a cameo appearance in the movie as a delivery guy.
